Honors Council

The Honors Council is a group of Honors students who serve as the liaison between Honors students, the University Honors Office, and the university at large. Council members typically welcome incoming freshmen as they move into Landis Hall at the beginning of the fall semester, and they are available on a year-round basis to share information with new and returning students regarding all phases of academic and social life at FSU. They also arrange social events and service activities for Honors students with the aim of promoting fellowship in the program and enhancing the life of the broader community.

ANNUAL COUNCIL ACTIVITIES

The Honors Council opens each school year with Day @ the Rez, a social gathering at the FSU Seminole Reservation on Lake Bradford. All incoming freshmen are encouraged to attend so they may meet each other and other upper class Honors students while enjoying good food and outdoor activities.

In the early fall, the Council holds the annual Fall Ice Cream Social in Landis Hall. The Honors Service Fair brings twelve campus and community organizations to Landis to showcase volunteer opportunities in Tallahassee that are available to all students.

In the spring, fifty Honors students spend an entire Saturday volunteering with four local agencies during the Honors Day of Service, a time for Honors students to join their peers in giving back to the local Tallahassee community. The annual Honors Coffee House is held in April, typically the Thursday night before the last FSU Preview session. It is open to prospective Honors students and their parents and features the performance and artistic talents of many FSU students, both Honors and non-Honors.

Council members also attend the spring President’s Medallion Ceremony to wish Honors Medallion students well as they graduate from FSU.
