HOUSING FAQ
Which residence halls comprise the Honors Residence Complex?
Honors students have the choice of living in Gilchrist Hall or Landis Hall. These dorms are centrally located on Landis Green, across from Strozier Library. This "honors community" provides an excellent environment for many academic and extracurricular activities.
Am I required to live in Honors housing?
No.
How do I apply for Honors housing?
Students who have been accepted into the FSU Honors Program and wish to reside in either honors community are encouraged to apply for housing as soon as they have been formally admitted to FSU. If students wish to reside in either honors community they must list Landis or Gilchrist as their 1st and 2nd choice in order to have priority assignments for these two halls. However, University Honors participants are not required to reside in these two communities and may request other halls.
Acceptance into the Honors program does not guarantee housing or an assignment to the Landis and Gilchrist Honors Community.
Can I live in Gilchrist or Landis if I am not an honors student?
Honors students who have been accepted into the Honors Program can live in Gilchrist or Landis Halls. Non-honors participants will be assigned to these residence halls only if spaces are available after all requests from Honors students are filled.
I was accepted into the Honors Program and have listed Landis and Gilchrist Halls as housing preferences but my roommate preference is not eligible for the Honors program. Can we still be roommates?
Since non-honor participants will only be considered for these halls after all honor requests have been exhausted, it is unlikely that Housing will be able to accommodate your roommate request.
I want to apply for housing but I have not received a decision letter from the Honors program yet. Should I wait to submit my housing application until I know if I have been accepted into the Honors Program?
Since housing accommodations are limited, it is essential that students apply for housing as soon as possible after their admission into FSU. Students who have applied to Honors and wish to live in a Honors residence hall but have yet to receive a decision letter should indicate either Landis or Gilchrist halls as their 1st and/or 2nd choices since actual hall/room assignments will not be made by the Housing office until early June, well after admissions decisions for the Honors program have been made. The student's 3rd and 4th hall preferences should be their backup 1st and 2nd choices, in the event that their application into Honors program for fall is declined.
Please know that university housing is not guaranteed, regardless of a student's admission into the Honors program. Choosing to wait to apply for housing may result in not being assigned to a preferred space, specific roommate or even the opportunity to reside in campus housing. Therefore, you are encouraged to submit your housing application shortly after your admission to FSU.When Housing makes room assignments (mid-to late May), students who have been accepted into Honors will be considered for room assignment in those particular residence halls. I have applied for admission into the Cawthon/Reynolds/Jennie Murphree Living Learning Communities. Will I be able to participate in Honors as well?
A few of FSU's Living-Learning programs have restrictions that prohibit simultaneous participation in the Honors Program during your first year. If you are considering applying to a Living Learning program in addition to Honors, you are strongly advised to contact that Living-Learning program directly to inquire about detailed information regarding potential program conflicts.
If I am assigned to Gilchrist or Landis, will I be required to purchase a meal plan?
Yes. All Honors students residing in the Honors Halls (LANDIS and GILCHRIST) as well as all students residing in Living-Learning Communities or the Reynolds Wellness Lifestyle Program will be required to purchase a meal membership for the 2006-2007 academic year. Please see www.seminoledining.com for more information.
