Aaron is from Jacksonville, Florida and is a senior double-majoring in Biological Science and Biomedical Mathematics. Under the supervision of Dr. Monica K. Hurdal, Aaron researched brain mapping methods and completed an Honors Thesis entitled “Comparison of Human Cortical Surface Reconstructions from Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data.” Aaron evaluated cortical surface reconstruction methods contained in number of software packages that are currently available to the neuroscience community. In addition to the numerous scholarships and honors Aaron has been awarded, he is also a Howard Hughes Fellow in Mathematical and Computational Biology. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has awarded FSU $1.6 million to initiate a computational and mathematical undergraduate degree program. FSU is one of 44 universities in the nation and the only one in the State of Florida to receive such an award. The Hughes Fellowships are available to twelve FSU undergraduates per year. Aaron’s career goals include entering and completing an M.D./Ph.D. program so that he may perform research to improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from disease, particularly in the development of new processes and technology that will offer health care providers and other researchers in the neuroscience community with non-invasive diagnostic or therapeutic tools and resources.
