Tanner Barnes

Tanner Barnes

Tanner Barnes is originally from Panama City, Florida. He received his BA in English (2019) and his MFA in Creative Writing (2022) from Florida State University. While completing his BA, he participated in the Honors in the Major program and would be happy to tell you about his experience with the program. During his MFA, Tanner won the John Mackay Shaw Academy of American Poets Award.

Tanner joined the Honors Program as an Honors advisor in July of 2022. As an advisor, his goal is to help students get the most out of their time here at FSU, whether that be through their education, campus engagement, or community involvement. His focus is helping students find what they care about most and providing them with the tools to achieve their goals.

Outside of the Honors program Tanner spends most of his time either watching college football, reading about college football, or listening to podcasts about college football. Other than that, he enjoys the occasional round of disc golf and reading poorly written sci-fi novels.
