Students are accepted into the University Honors Program by application only. Acceptance occurs prior to enrollment at FSU and is based on an evaluation of the student's entire academic record submitted to the University during the admission process. Students also may apply to the Honors Program at the end of their first semester (lateral admission). More information on each of these modes of acceptance is given below.
High School Students

To be eligible for the Honors Program along with its specialized scholars programs (Presidential Scholars , Honors Medical Scholars, and Honors Legal Scholars) , students must apply to Florida State University by November 1, 2019. Once a student has been admitted to Florida State, he or she may apply to the Honors Program assuming one of the following criteria is met:
- Receive the University Freshman Scholarship
- Receive the 100% Out of State Tuition Waiver
- be a National Merit Semifinalist
The Honors application is due by 11:59pm EST on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
Applicants will be evaluated based on a holistic approach including, but not limited to: ACT/SAT scores, high school GPA, strength of curriculum, number of courses at the honors level or higher, honors and awards, extracurricular achievements, unique individual talents, and quality of responses to the short-answer questions.
The average academic profile of the Honors Program applicants that were admitted in 2018 was: 4.4 weighted GPA; 33 ACT composite; 1500 SAT total.
Students who are admitted to Florida State University by transferring may apply for admission to the Honors Program. Applicants will need to meet at least one of the following two requirements to be eligible to apply:
- Be in good standing in an Honors Program or Honors College at your current institution or
- Have a 3.5 GPA or higher from your current institution.
Students will be evaluated on the basis of cumulative and term GPAs, college coursework, and expressed interest in the Honors Program as reflected in the application. Furthermore, all applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis with no guarantee of admission. If accepted, a maximum of 6 honors credits earned in Honors Seminars or comparable honors courses may be accepted toward the Honors Medallion. The application is available here.
Current Florida State University Students: Lateral Admission
Freshmen at Florida State University may be eligible for admission to the University Honors Program via the lateral admission process. Lateral admits join the University Honors Program the spring semester following their first fall semester. They are held to the same retention requirements as students admitted by standard admission.
In order to be considered for lateral admission students must submit the required application found at https://honors-fsu.us.fluidreview.com/. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their FSU cumulative and term GPAs, college coursework, and expressed interest in the Honors Program as reflected in the application. To be competitive, students offered lateral admission generally enroll in at least fifteen (15) graded credit hours and earn a 3.800 FSU GPA during their first fall term. Applications will be available on Thursday, October 1. All applications are due by 11:59pm EST on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. Admission decisions will go out after the semester ends once all grades have been posted.
