She has received numerous awards, such as the President's Travel Grant (1993, 1994, 1996) and the University Teaching Incentive Award (1994). She is also a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, American Political Science Association, and the International Student Association. She discusses her passion for traveling below:
"My favorite thing to do is to travel. As an FSU undergrad, I participated in the London program. In graduate school, I studied Russian in the Soviet Union, and I was in Berlin as the wall was coming down. Since then, I have taken advantage of many other opportunities to travel both for work and pleasure. My favorite part of traveling is the serendipitous opportunities. I happened to be in Warsaw on the anniversary of the Soviet invasion in World War II, and I came upon a commemorative parade with survivors of the Home Army and the Jewish Defense Forces. I also attended a European Cup qualifying game between Croatia and Georgia in Split, Croatia which made FSU football games look tame."
